Engineering for Pudgets

Rocks for Jocks

Mommy and Daddy unceremoniously ditched us so they could check out some boring rocks in Utah. We hung out with our grandparents, stayed up late, played way too many video games, and got all sorts of presents. Plus, much needed haircuts!

The word game

Lately we have been playing a word game with each other. Here are the rules.

1) If you say any word ending in "o," the other person says "tis owl" so it sounds like "Otis Owl." Example:

Richard - Hi my little Geo.

George - Tis Owl!

2) If you say "me," the other person says "owth" so it sounds like Mommy's favorite Pokemon, "Meowth."

Example:

George - Stop bothering me!

Henry - Owth!

3) If you say "why," the other person says "f" so it sounds like "yf," a character George created for his Nintendo persona.

Example:

Mommy: Go brush your teeth!

George: Why?

Mommy: F!

Now that you understand the rules, you can play along, too, or at least understand why (f!) the boys are talking so (tis owl!) annoyingly to me (owth!).

Cursivepudget

George's handiwork - the top and bottom rows are entirely his work, and the middle rows are Mommy's examples

State Championships

Richard's last meet of the season took place on Sunday. He killed it on pommel horse and nailed the rings, taking him to 4th place overall for his age group and division. Congrats to Richard!!!

Our favorite used-to-be-orange brother is now 9! (And no longer orange, thankfully!) Happy birthday Henrykins!

Bring in the clowns

Georgie had his Kindergarten Circus on Thursday. He played a clown. Here is a video of his antics.

So happy together

George has this idee fixe that Mommy is going to live to be 100. It's a nice, round number after all. Last night, while he was in the bath, the following conversation transpired:

George: How many days are in 60 years?

Mommy (after running the numbers on her phone): 21,900

George: Yay, I have 21,900 more days to be with Mommy!

Owls at Ikea

After their robotics class, the boys wanted to go to Ikea for dinner. The owls came along for the ride.

Bass Pro Shops

We checked out Bass Pro Shops in Stapleton and found it to be virtually identical to our local Cabela's except for a lot more cool rides! The boys have their eyes on a $30,000 pontoon boat now...

Nesting Dump Trumps

George is an old pro at nesting dump trucks. Thanks to his vehicular avarice, he has more dump trucks to nest now.

Garden of the Pests redux

The last time we ventured to the Garden of the Gods was in 2013. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to revisit the park on a gorgeous 70-degree March day in Denver, so we made the trek and had a very pleasant late-afternoon hike. Here is the highlight reel.

Mr. Robot

Henry and George have been taking an engineering class on Tuesdays while Richard is at his guitar lesson. George has proven quite adept at building robots. Here is a cute drumming robot he put together. Click here for the video.

Henry's conference (a serious post)

We had a terrific parent-teacher conference for Henry this week (George's went well, too, and Richard is apparently doing so well he doesn't even need one). Here is a piece he wrote about deforestation after being shown an aerial image of the rainforest in 1975 vs. 2012. We were blown away by how sophisticated his writing is at age 8--he will surely rule the world one day (if one of his brothers doesn't get there first!).
